By this time last year I was in full wedding planning mode being 1 month away from the big day. While I missed a post on our engagement anniversary this past May, I thought it would nice to recap on this special memory.
The Big Sur has a special place in our heart. Not only is it a place with the most beautiful scenery of the Pacific coast, it is the place where I said “Yes” to the love of my life.
May 7, 2011 – Our Big Sur Engagement
In April 2011 I was graduating from UF with my Bachelors degree. For me it was a time where I had NO idea which direction my life was going. That ‘not knowing’ and stress from our long distance relationship pushed me into depression. The only thing I was looking forward to was a week vacation to visit Roger in California. I remember him saying to me clearly not to worry, that things were going to turn around real soon.
From the moment I landed in Cali, Roger had planned the most amazing week.
We drove a long highway 1, stopped to admire and snap photos of the beautiful coastline. I don’t think selfie sticks were invented yet at this time. Roger and I kept having to set up a tripod and set a timer to get pictures with the both of us. We hiked a long the trails, Roger set up the camera, and got the entire proposal on camera!!
In 2014 we had the opportunity to visit the same spot on our engagement anniversary while vacationing in Northern California. We were engaged for a total of 5 years before getting married (an entire separate story)!
We may romanticize the Big Sur because of our engagement. It was also a time that reminds me daily to simply snap out of it and to not worry. That God always has better plans for me even though it doesn’t happen right away or I may not know them right away.
Roger did an amazing job planning all of this. I’ll post the entire adventure soon!
